So the Sci Fi channel is changing its name Syfy, and is being deservedly mocked for it all over the internet. Not that this is all that surprising. It's been obvious for years that the network is run by twits. Tactless twits at that. Check out six paragraphs down on that last link:

“The name Sci Fi has been associated with geeks and dysfunctional, antisocial boys in their basements with video games and stuff like that, as opposed to the general public and the female audience in particular,” said TV historian Tim Brooks, who helped launch Sci Fi Channel when he worked at USA Network.

Suddenly, many of their programing decisions make do much more sense.

The fact that I can be completly distracted from porn by re-organizing my bookmarks is probably a sign that I'm a total nerd.

Some things never stop being funny, and appalled capslocky flailing about a brain breaking fic concept is one of them. Personally, I don’t quite see what is that strange about Spirited Away Haku/Kamajii slash, although it isn’t a pairing that would have occurred to me.

Of course, it might just be that I've been on the internet too long. This notion is rather encouraged by the fact that I'm sitting here giggling at the Torchwood/Stainless Steel Rat crossover commentfic going on in [livejournal.com profile] copperbadge’s journal. The notion of Jim DiGriz and Jack Harkness as being the same person is hard to top for sheer weirdness.

Apparently, lame plagiarism excuses are universal.  The professor teaching the class on vampires that I’m taking was quite annoyed yesterday.  One of the part time teachers on campus had tried to teach a class that followed a very similar outline, including the same set of very obscure sources.  One of them was a movie called “The Addiction”, which isn’t even available in the USA. It turns out that she had taken the class before.  My professor even got the “but it’s a compliment!” and “I thought you weren’t teaching it anymore” excuses.  You would think they could be a little more creative.  And no, finding something unusual to steal, like a class syllabus,  doesn't count.

Huh.

I suspect one of the girls in my vampire film class is in fandom. As far as I know, the term twincest, while certainly applicable to Nadja, isn't in general use.

I was catching up on my flist, and found a post by [personal profile] seperis on why some pairings become popular
There is an excellent breakdown of pairing types in fandom in this thread here:

After the recent uproars around here, this seems like a really good idea. It's a database of peoples usernames that you can search to get their names on other sites, so you can find someone if they leave Livejournal for another service.

Actually, since there are already three or four comms dedicated to bitching about the book, not to mention massive spoiler wank, I think it's already here.
